Brussel Sprouts are a vigorous, leafy green vegetable grown for its edible buds that look like miniature cabbages. Showing excellent cold disease tolerance, Brussel Sprouts are rich in vitamin C and vitamin K and are typically cooked by boiling, steaming, roasting and stir-frying. The buds are removed from the stem and the stem is discarded. Requiring a position in full sun, Brussel Sprouts should be planted in well-drained soil that has been that has been enriched with compost or manure prior to planting and water regularly to ensure the soil stays moist. Adding mulch on top of your garden bed will help retain moisture in the soil. Plant Brussel Sprouts alongside Nasturtiums. Brussel Sprouts reach maturity at 16 - 22 weeks and should be planted 30cm apart.
